Israel llevó a cabo ataques aéreos contra los suburbios sureños de Beirut en el marco de su ofensiva en el Líbano contra "objetivos terroristas" de Hezbolá, que lanzó misiles contra territorio israelí para vengar la muerte del líder supremo de Irán, el ayatolá Alí Jameneí.
